Belle was born into my hands, but it was unexpected. Her mother Sammy had sneaked off with housemate Butch to have illicit teenage sex. The first owners Ron and Cheryl knew about it was when Sammy had a puppy on their bed! I received a panic phone call from them, and drove down to whelp the rest of the litter. As Ron and Cheryl couldn't raise their first litter at that time, Sammy and her 4 pups came home with me. The intent had always been to breed Sammy and Butch, we knew they were a good match, but Sammy jumped the gun.
At 8 weeks, Belle went to live with Laurie and Justin Beck. She shared the house with Page, her great aunt. Belle finished her championship easily, and came back to Lebec to whelp and raise her first litter. Looking at her pups, it was obvious that Belle was something special as a dam. Back she went to Laurie, and all was well until her next season, when a bad case of hormones put her and Page at serious odds. We decided Belle would come back to me, and give Page some peace. Except for a brief sojourn in Iowa, Belle has been in my house since.
Belle is one of my favorite Briards of all time, and I adore her. She has a very outgoing personality, great temperament, movement that is a pleasure to watch, is very smart, and extremely affectionate. She just has the total package that is a pleasure to live with. She does have one flaw - Briards are supposed to be reserved with strangers, and she sure isn't! Belle enjoys just about everyone she meets. Her minor flaw is she hogs the bed at night, trying to take my pillow. Belle shares the household with her great-grandmother Sassy, as well as her great-great-aunt Journey, her first cousin 4 times removed Sonnet, and a couple of non-relatives to play with. Minie is her current favorite playmate.
Belle's first litter includes a group placing daughter, and a Specialty Sweeps winner. Her second litter has a champion son with more on the way, and a herding titled daughter. Her third litter will be hitting the show ring soon. Because of the ease with which she whelps and raises a litter, and the extremely high quality that she produces, Belle has been bred one more time. We hope for pups in December, 2007.
