Ch Lebec's Ode du Montagne, HSAs, TT

Sonnet comes by her herding instinct honestly, with both of her parents and her sister holding herding titles. Her sire, Montagne Hallmark de Lindeau, HS is a black, and well known as a sire of lovely Briards with great temperaments. Her mother Jubie, Chaccado Jeu de Montagne, HS, imported from Finland, is a tawny and only produced one litter. Neither Markie nor Jubie were ever shown, but both could have easily finished championships. Sonnet was whelped on January 1, 1998 - a New Years baby.

Mary Weir-Anderson trained and showed Sonnet to her Herding Started title. Sonnet was awarded best in Sweepstakes by two breeder judges at Independent Specialty shows. She also won Winner's Bitch at the BCC Independent Specialty, and finished her championship with back to back majors. She has won the Herding Bitch class at the BCA National Specialty twice. Her half sister Derby has numerous Best in Shows, among other relatives that have done well.

Sonnet is an extremely affectionate dog, a cuddler, always wanting to be in touch with me, and joyously greeting those people she knows. She used to have the Briard aloofness with strangers, but as she has gotten older, she has learned to appreciate any lap. She is also a very good trainer! When staying at my parents, she taught them to let her in immediately when she barked, something she never tries here. My family still can't understand why she never barks when I am in their house.

Sonnet was unlucky in the puppy department. Her first pregnancy, she miscarried half the litter while I followed her around in a snowstorm in the yard. The remaining 5 pups were born healthy, thank goodness, but the infection that Sonnet had developed took a very long time to clear up, and slightly damaged her heart. She had one other litter of 6 pups, but then developed a pyometra that meant she was spayed. I wish I had more down from this beautiful girl, but some things are not meant to be. I'm happy to have a healthy, wonderful companion.
