Grace was bred to "Ike", a lovely tawny import from the Czech Republic, and whelped 9 puppies on 6-9-2016. 2 tawny girls, 3 black girls, and 4 black boys (she forgot to include a tawny boy, bummer!).
One natural ear black girl is available. We call her Maybe, but eventually decided not to keep her. This girl is high energy, extremely smart, and holds her own with other dogs. If I was looking for an agility dog, she'd be it. She also loves to cuddle and play, does well on a leash, and is learning basic obedience commands. We think she is going to be a smaller girl, like her mother. She is a very pretty girl, but doesn't have the extra something we look for in a show dog, thus the need for a new home. Gracie's name is part of her history. In 2010, I lost my beautiful Burlington, Lebec's Coat Factory, following a c-section. Grace was one of the puppies we hand raised from that litter. She is named after her mother's "fall from grace" - having illicit sex with Caesar and producing the unplanned litter. Grace was the pick puppy in Burlington's litter.
Grace is a fascinating little girl. Weighing under 50 pounds, she is as graceful as her name. She easily achieves heights like tabletops and the backs of couches. Gracie is a bossy little girl, always wanting to be the closest Briard to her humans, and usually getting her way. Watching her move is a pleasure. She is one major shy of her AKC Championship. While we love her smaller size and natural ears, it does count against her in the show ring. Her movement and elegant style do please the discerning judge! She is high energy, extremely loving and loyal, especially to her Mom Claude and Dad Steve, with Jeanne in third place. Steve tried to keep her for herding, since she has shown tremendous potential in her limited exposure. Steve has to wait his turn! Gracie has been a tremendous asset to our breeding program, producing three litters of exceptional quality, lovely to look at and great to live with. While we don't normally do a fourth breeding, the quality of Grace's pups is so high, and her enjoyment in being a mother so obvious, we decided to let her have one more go round. We literally looked all over the country before deciding that Ike was the perfect boy for Grace's last litter.

Ike's owner Ellen says:
Ike is my Facebook Briard. If it wasn’t for Facebook I would not have become friends with Pavla Firlova and Moravia Campanella. I saw Pavla’s photos of Ike’s sire Speedy and dam Sweety and was blown away. I studied Pavla’s website and both Speedy and Sweety’s pedigrees. I saw healthy dogs, grandparents and great-grandparents alive and well into their teens. I saw beautiful dogs with incredible coats and incredible color.
I am honored that Pavla entrusted this incredible being into my home.
Ike is an incredibly happy friendly dog. He has been easy to train, very willing to please, but he is also very much a sheepdog. Tending to his flock – us. He insists on checking out every person that comes into our home. Once greeted, he wants to play. He loves to lay outside on his cot, especially in the winter when it’s snowing, and keep an eye on his territory.
Ike was Select at the 2014 Rass. He has incredible bone, beautiful flowing movement both coming and going and in profile, along with beautiful tail carriage and gorgeous coat.
How we raise our puppies
The quality of a puppy is determined by both genetics and environment. How they are raised before you ever meet them is a major influence! Lebec and l'Hermitage believe in several things:
1) Mom knows best. We don't try to override or interfere with a bitch raising her pups. We add the human element, but Mom is in charge. Unless health issues interfere, she has complete access to her pups from day 1 to the day they leave. At 3 weeks, we start adding our food to the puppies diet, but Mom is always allowed to feed as long as she wants. And she is in charge of discipline!
2) Socialization begins at birth. We handle all the pups daily. Once eyes are open, we try to introduce new items and experiences regularly. In raising pups, doing things "later" is too late. "Now" is always the right time. Visitors start young, with friends handling pups within the first week.
3) At 3 1/2 weeks, pups are moved into the puppy pen in the living room, with all the activity of living. Pups get turned loose several times a day to explore and broaden their world. The outside is added at about 4 weeks. The puppy pen has play and poop areas, to begin housebreaking. The play area is continually enhanced with toys, obstacles, and an environment to stimulate the puppies. Mom can hop in and out. The older dogs get to visit through the pen bars, and gradually get to meet pups in person.
4) Outside exposure to new places is the key. Starting at week five, we do field trips every weekend, to friend's houses, to puppy parties - anywhere a car ride and a new (safe) place can be experienced. We try for different surfaces, different ages of people, even different temperatures, at each new place. Thanks goodness for good friends!
5) We continually encourage visitors, be it the kids from around the neighborhood, prospective buyers, friends - anyone we can get! The more people the puppies meet, the better.
6) Starting at 7 weeks, pups are fed in crates to prepare them for new homes. They spend several nights in their crates before leaving, giving puppy buyers a head start on house training.
7) Puppy buyers are provided with books on puppy rearing and Briards, a long document giving our take on raising Briards, a puppy crate, collar and leash, a scented toy, and ready access to us for help and advice at any time. Pups are microchipped before leaving.
Pups from Lebec and l'Hermitage are raised with love and experience - it's a winning combination.

One of the bad things about having a webcam up is that we forget to post photos. We will try to remember that detail!
